Non-Vascular Plants
Mosses (Bryophyta) are ranked Bryophyta in the phylum group. It is unique to our park because most of the rain forest is covered by moss, even the ground. Mosses are typically found in moist environments although most species can withstand prolonged periods of staying in an extreme dry state. They produce spores, rather than seeds and do not flower. They tend to grow from the ground up the tree trunks.
Seedless Vascular Plants
Lycopodiophyta is a tracheophyte subdivision of the Kingdom Plantae. Lycopods reproduce by shedding spores and have macroscopic alternation of generation. It is unique to our park because they provide food for the larger organisms while they take in nutrients from the decomposers. Although these plants are meant to grow in tropical areas, Olympic has many Lycopods that grow there.
Gymnosperms
Gymnosperms (Western White Pines) are pine trees is plantae in the kingdom group.
